I’m Kai Lieffering, 10 years of age, length 4,7 ft and 73 lb and I live in Noordwijk, The Netherlands. Noordwijk is also my home spot. Since I started kiting, the chance you can find me at my surf club KSN is almost a 100%. Of course not when I’m travelling abroad for kite spots in other beautiful countries.
Please introduce yourself a little for those who don’t know you.
Why, and at what age did you get into kiting?
I started kiting at the age of 8. Since I got my first kite in the summer of ’22, everyday I’m looking for a possibility to go to the beach. It’s like I told my parents: Kitesurfing feels magical! The passion for kitesurfing runs in the family. My father couldn’t be more delighted that I feel the same passion for kitesurfing as he does.
What about kiting do you enjoy most?
Recently I took part in my first contest and I loved it! So in the future I like to compete as much as possible. But besides joining competitions I very much like kitesurfing with my friends and pushing each other to higher levels and learning to do cooler tricks every time.
Describe the absolute perfect dream session to us.
I still have so much to learn that every time I’m on the water, I experience it as my dream session. But if I must make a choice, it’s a late afternoon session with 25 knots, a nice swell, and clean kickers.
What gear are you riding and what’s your favorite size?
I’m riding the Reedin Supermodel HTF 6, 8 and 10 m2 with a Dreamstick X shorty. I’m looking forward to ride the MiniKev. With the Dreamstick X Shorty and the MiniKev Reedin has managed to deliver an amazing setup for young and smaller kiters like me. I don’t prefer a size yet, as long as it’s the Supermodel HTF.
What do you do on a day without wind?
Unless the wind is zero knots, I’m always practicing on the beach or in the dunes. Kiting with a buggy or a mountainboards also gives a lot of fun. But when it’s not kite able, I sometimes go to the wake park and improve my skills on the cable.Â
Fortunately most of the time I’m able to go onto the water, especially now I’m in the possession of the Reedin Supermodel HTF 10 m2.
What can people expect to see from you in the future?
I’m going to be a multiple winner of the King of the Air and an ambassador for this amazing sport! So if you’re interested in my road to Capetown, please follow me on my Instagram account. I’m looking forward to meeting you!
