I’m Rene Barner…28 years old. Did 2023 my master’s in car mechanics and I’m actually from Hamburg but moved to the island of Fehmarn in 2018 to get more time on the water.
Why, and at what age did you get into kiting?
My father has always flown kites but only on land… started with it too and in 2010 we switched to the water…so I started with 14.
What about kiting do you enjoy most?
Having fun together with friends on the water and pushing each other…but also being in nature and trying to control the forces of nature.
Describe the absolute perfect dream session to us.
35 to 40 knots…big kicker…8 or 7meter kite and bang out something really high…and go out again on 10m lines for sunset.
What gear are you riding and what’s your favorite size?
I have currently 6 & 10m Hypermodel and 8 & 12m Supermodel and a 135 Space Agency. I am very much in love with the 6m Hypermodel because it works super well on 10m lines…but also on long lines because it makes the doubles so easy
What do you do on a day without wind?
Because I’m a car mechanic…I often work on my cars…but really only to skip the days until the wind comes back.
